Die Region Epirus im Nordwesten Griechenlands lockt Besucher mit ihren beeindruckenden Berglandschaften, malerischen Dörfern und kulturellen Schätzen in den Bann.
Doch abseits von Naturwundern wie der Vikos-Schlucht und dem See Pamvotida wartet eine weniger bekannte, aber ebenso reizvolle Entdeckung: die Weinstraße von Epirus. Sie führt durch die fruchtbaren Weingebiete von Metsovo und Zitsa und verbindet die landschaftliche Schönheit dieser Region mit kulinarischen Genüssen von höchster Qualität.

Region – Die Reise entlang der Weinstraße beginnt oft in Metsovo, einer traditionellen Ortschaft, die auf 1160 Metern in den Pindos-Bergen thront. Metsovo ist nicht nur ein Zentrum des Wintertourismus, sondern auch Heimat eines der höchstgelegenen Weingüter Griechenlands, dem Weingut in Giniets. Auf beeindruckenden 950 bis 1.050 Metern Höhe werden hier außergewöhnliche Weine produziert. Das milde Klima, die mineralreichen Böden und die Höhenlage schaffen ideale Bedingungen für den Anbau von Trauben, die einzigartige Weine hervorbringen.
Besucher von Metsovo erwartet neben der Weinverkostung eine Fülle von Sehenswürdigkeiten. Die Ortschaft bietet mit dem Volkskundemuseum und der Pinakothek „E. Averof“ tiefe Einblicke in die Kunst und Kultur der Region. Wer die Natur liebt, wird von den majestätischen Bergen des Peristeri und den umliegenden Flüssen verzaubert sein. Der künstliche See an den Aoos-Quellen ist ein weiteres Highlight, das sich harmonisch in die raue Berglandschaft einfügt.
Folgt man der Weinstraße weiter nach Westen, erreicht man die malerische Stadt Ioannina, die sich entlang des glitzernden Pamvotida-Sees erstreckt. Die Altstadt wird von der imposanten Festung von Ioannina dominiert, deren Akropolen einen beeindruckenden Ausblick auf den See und die Insel im Pamvotida bieten. Diese Insel verwaltet seit byzantinischer Zeit eine Klostergemeinschaft und verleiht Ioannina ein besonderes historisches Flair.
Neben seiner historischen Bedeutung ist Ioannina auch für seine Gastfreundschaft und kulinarischen Genüsse bekannt. Die traditionellen Tavernen bieten lokale Spezialitäten, die perfekt zu den Weinen der Region passen, und machen den Aufenthalt zu einem unvergesslichen Erlebnis.

Zusammen mit den Sorten Vlachiko und Bekari entstehen hier Weine, die für ihre Eleganz und ihren besonderen Charakter geschätzt werden. Die Weingüter von Zitsa bieten Weinliebhabern eine breite Palette an Aromen und Geschmacksrichtungen: von prickelnden Schaumweinen über fruchtige Roséweine bis hin zu kräftigen Rotweinen. Die Weinstraße führt weiter in das Gebiet Zagori, das vor allem durch den Nationalpark Vikos-Aoos bekannt ist. Die Vikos-Schlucht, eine der tiefsten Schluchten der Welt, und die natürlichen Pools von Papingo bieten spektakuläre Ausblicke und ein Gefühl von unberührter Wildnis. Wer in den traditionellen Dörfern der Region verweilt, kann neben den lokalen Weinen auch die handwerklich hergestellten Produkte der Region entdecken. The region of Epirus in northwestern Greece captivates visitors with its impressive mountain landscapes, picturesque villages, and cultural treasures. Yet beyond natural wonders like the Vikos Gorge and Lake Pamvotida lies a lesser-known but equally enchanting discovery: the Epirus Wine Route. It leads through the fertile wine regions of Metsovo and Zitsa, combining the scenic beauty of this region with culinary delights of the highest quality.
The journey along the wine route often begins in Metsovo, a traditional village perched at 1,160 meters in the Pindus Mountains. Metsovo is not only a hub for winter tourism but also home to one of the highest-altitude wineries in Greece, the Giniets Estate. At an impressive altitude of 950 to 1,050 meters, exceptional wines are produced here. The mild climate, mineral-rich soils, and high elevation create ideal conditions for growing grapes that yield unique wines.
Visitors to Metsovo can enjoy not only wine tastings but also a wealth of attractions. The village offers deep insights into the region’s art and culture with the Folk Art Museum and the “E. Averof” Gallery. Nature lovers will be enchanted by the majestic Peristeri Mountains and the surrounding rivers. Following the wine route further west, one reaches the picturesque city of Ioannina, stretching along the shimmering Lake Pamvotida. The old town is dominated by the imposing Fortress of Ioannina, whose acropolises offer impressive views of the lake and the island in Pamvotida. Since Byzantine times, this island has hosted a monastic community, giving Ioannina a unique historical charm.
In addition to its historical significance, Ioannina is also known for its hospitality and culinary delights. Traditional taverns offer local specialties that pair perfectly with the region’s wines, making any stay an unforgettable experience.
The wine route continues to the area of Zitsa, a village renowned for its long wine tradition. The poet Lord Byron praised the region in his verses after staying at the Monastery of Prophet Elias. The soils of Zitsa produce the indigenous grape variety Debina, from which fresh, sparkling wines and white wines are made. Together with the Vlachiko and Bekari varieties, elegant wines with distinctive character are produced here. The wineries of Zitsa offer wine lovers a wide palette of aromas and flavors: from sparkling wines to fruity rosés and robust reds. A tasting on-site is a feast for all the senses.
The wine route continues into the Zagori region, best known for the Vikos–Aoos National Park. The Vikos Gorge, one of the deepest gorges in the world, and the natural pools of Papingo offer spectacular views and a sense of untouched wilderness. The grand finale of the wine route is the region of Konitsa, distinguished by its breathtaking landscape. Οινοδιαδρομή της Ηπείρου: Ένα κρυμμένο μυστικό ανάμεσα σε φυσικά θαύματα και εκλεκτούς οίνους
Η περιοχή της Ηπείρου, στα βορειοδυτικά της Ελλάδας, μαγεύει τους επισκέπτες με τα εντυπωσιακά ορεινά τοπία, τα γραφικά χωριά και τους πολιτιστικούς της θησαυρούς. Πέρα όμως από φυσικά θαύματα όπως το φαράγγι του Βίκου και τη λίμνη Παμβώτιδα, υπάρχει μια λιγότερο γνωστή αλλά εξίσου ελκυστική ανακάλυψη: η Οινοδιαδρομή της Ηπείρου. Διασχίζει τις εύφορες οινοπαραγωγικές περιοχές του Μετσόβου και της Ζίτσας, συνδυάζοντας τη φυσική ομορφιά της περιοχής με γαστρονομικές απολαύσεις υψηλής ποιότητας.
Το ταξίδι κατά μήκος της οινοδιαδρομής ξεκινά συχνά από το Μέτσοβο, έναν παραδοσιακό οικισμό που δεσπόζει στα 1.160 μέτρα στα βουνά της Πίνδου. Το Μέτσοβο αποτελεί όχι μόνο κέντρο χειμερινού τουρισμού, αλλά και την πατρίδα ενός από τα υψηλότερα οινοποιεία της Ελλάδας, το οινοποιείο στη θέση Γκινιέτς. Σε εντυπωσιακό υψόμετρο 950 έως 1.050 μέτρων παράγονται εκεί εξαιρετικά κρασιά. Το ήπιο κλίμα, τα πλούσια σε μέταλλα εδάφη και το μεγάλο υψόμετρο δημιουργούν ιδανικές συνθήκες για την καλλιέργεια σταφυλιών που δίνουν μοναδικούς οίνους.
Οι επισκέπτες του Μετσόβου μπορούν, πέρα από τις οινογευσίες, να απολαύσουν μια πληθώρα αξιοθέατων. Το Λαογραφικό Μουσείο και η Πινακοθήκη «Ε. Αβέρωφ» προσφέρουν βαθιά γνώση της τέχνης και του πολιτισμού της περιοχής. Οι λάτρεις της φύσης θα γοητευτούν από τα επιβλητικά βουνά του Περιστερίου και τους γύρω ποταμούς. Η τεχνητή λίμνη στις πηγές του Αώου αποτελεί ακόμη ένα σημείο ενδιαφέροντος που ενσωματώνεται αρμονικά στο άγριο ορεινό τοπίο.
Ακολουθώντας κανείς την οινοδιαδρομή προς τα δυτικά, φτάνει στα γραφικά Ιωάννινα, που εκτείνονται κατά μήκος της λαμπερής λίμνης Παμβώτιδας. Η παλιά πόλη δεσπόζεται από το επιβλητικό Κάστρο των Ιωαννίνων, του οποίου οι Ακροπόλεις προσφέρουν εντυπωσιακή θέα προς τη λίμνη και το νησί της Παμβώτιδας. Το νησί αυτό φιλοξενεί από τη βυζαντινή εποχή μια μοναστική κοινότητα, προσδίδοντας στα Ιωάννινα μια ιδιαίτερη ιστορική ατμόσφαιρα.
Πέρα από τη μεγάλη ιστορική του σημασία, τα Ιωάννινα είναι γνωστά για τη φιλοξενία και τη γαστρονομία τους. Οι παραδοσιακές ταβέρνες προσφέρουν τοπικές ειδικότητες που ταιριάζουν ιδανικά με τα κρασιά της περιοχής, κάνοντας την επίσκεψη αξέχαστη.
Η οινοδιαδρομή συνεχίζει στη Ζίτσα, ένα χωριό διάσημο για την οινική του παράδοση. Ο λόρδος Βύρων εξήρε την περιοχή στους στίχους του, μετά τη διαμονή του στη Μονή Προφήτη Ηλία. Τα εδάφη της Ζίτσας γεννούν την αυτόχθονη ποικιλία Ντεμπίνα, από την οποία παράγονται φρέσκα, αφρώδη και λευκά κρασιά. Μαζί με τις ποικιλίες Βλαχικό και Μπεκάρι δημιουργούνται οίνοι με κομψότητα και ιδιαίτερο χαρακτήρα. Τα οινοποιεία της Ζίτσας προσφέρουν μια μεγάλη γκάμα αρωμάτων και γεύσεων: από αφρώδη κρασιά και φρουτώδη ροζέ έως πλούσια ερυθρά. Μια δοκιμή επί τόπου είναι εμπειρία για όλες τις αισθήσεις.
Η οινοδιαδρομή οδηγεί στη συνέχεια στο Ζαγόρι, γνωστό κυρίως για το Εθνικό Πάρκο Βίκου–Αώου. Το φαράγγι του Βίκου, ένα από τα βαθύτερα στον κόσμο, και οι φυσικές κολυμπήθρες του Πάπιγκου προσφέρουν θεαματικές εικόνες και μια αίσθηση ανέγγιχτης άγριας φύσης. Όσοι διαμένουν στα παραδοσιακά χωριά της περιοχής μπορούν να ανακαλύψουν, εκτός από τα τοπικά κρασιά, και τα χειροποίητα προϊόντα του τόπου. Ο συνδυασμός φύσης, πολιτισμού και γαστρονομίας καθιστά την Οινοδιαδρομή της Ηπείρου μια μοναδική εμπειρία.
Ο ιδανικός επίλογος της οινοδιαδρομής είναι η περιοχή της Κόνιτσας, με το επιβλητικό φυσικό της περιβάλλον. Τα εντυπωσιακά ορεινά συγκροτήματα του Γράμμου, του Σμόλικα και της Γκαμήλας προσφέρουν όχι μόνο μια μαγευτική εικόνα, αλλά και πολλές δυνατότητες για υπαίθριες δραστηριότητες. Πεζοπορία, ράφτινγκ, καγιάκ ή παραπέντε – στην Κόνιτσα κάθε λάτρης της φύσης βρίσκει αυτό που αναζητά. Εκτός από τις αθλητικές δραστηριότητες, η περιοχή προσκαλεί και σε στιγμές χαλάρωσης: τοπικά κρασιά και παραδοσιακές γεύσεις απολαμβάνονται στις ζεστές ταβέρνες, ενώ η θέα στο μεγαλείο της φύσης διώχνει κάθε άγχος.
