Im Jahre 1859 eröffnete Gustav Clauss einen Weinhandel in Patras, aus ihm erwuchs das heutige Weingut Achaia Clauss, welches bekannt ist für seine Mavrodaphne-Weine. Angeboten werden kostenlose Führungen in den verwunschen wirkenden Weinkeller mit Schätzen aus dem späten 19. Jahrhundert.

Patras – Gustav Clauss war im Gefolge von König Otto aus Bayern nach Griechenland eingewandert. 1859 gründete er in Patras einen Weinhandel, zwei Jahre später mit Jakob Klipfel ein Weingut, welches heute noch gerne als touristisches Ziel angefahren wird. Das Weingut Achaia Clauss exportierte ab 1869 Weine nach Deutschland, ab 1908 war das Gut führend in der Herstellung der Mavrodaphne-Weine (griechische Süßweine) und ebenfalls bekannt für seine Demestica-Tafelweine. Bis 1920 büßte das Weingut seine führende Marktposition ein, konnte bis zum Beginn des Zweiten Weltkrieges allerdings wieder hinzugewinnen.
In den 1970er Jahren konnte das Weingut den Jetset für sich gewinnen, Omar Sharif oder Aristoteles Onassis waren gern gesehene Gäste. Auch heute noch werden hier gern getrunkene Weine gekeltert. Um einen Einblick zu gewinnen, bietet das Weingut eine Führung in die historischen Keller an. Edle Fässer aus dem 19. Jahrhundert, in denen heute noch Schätze reifen, sind ebenso ausgestellt wie Originalwerkzeuge, ein kleines Maschinenmuseum oder das Büro von Gustav Clauss. Patras: Achaia Clauss – A popular Destination then and now
In 1859, Gustav Clauss opened a wine trading business in Patras, which grew into today’s Achaia Clauss winery, best known for its Mavrodaphne wines. Free guided tours are offered through the enchanting wine cellars, where treasures from the late 19th century are preserved.
Gustav Clauss had immigrated to Greece in the entourage of King Otto from Bavaria. In 1859, he founded a wine trade in Patras and, two years later, together with Jakob Klipfel, established a winery that remains a popular tourist destination to this day. From 1869, Achaia Clauss exported wines to Germany, and by 1908, it was a leading producer of Mavrodaphne wines (Greek dessert wines) as well as known for its Demestica table wines. Although it lost its leading market position by 1920, the winery regained strength before World War II.
In the 1970s, the winery became a hotspot for the international jet set, attracting visitors like Omar Sharif and Aristotle Onassis. Even today, the estate produces wines that are highly appreciated. To gain insight, visitors can join guided tours of the historic cellars. Noble barrels from the 19th century, where treasures still mature, are on display, as well as original tools, a small machinery museum, and Gustav Clauss’ office. Πάτρα: Achaia Clauss – Ένας αγαπημένος προορισμός τότε και τώρα
Το 1859 ο Gustav Clauss άνοιξε ένα εμπόριο κρασιού στην Πάτρα, το οποίο εξελίχθηκε στο σημερινό οινοποιείο Achaia Clauss, γνωστό κυρίως για τα κρασιά Μαυροδάφνη. Προσφέρονται δωρεάν ξεναγήσεις στα μαγευτικά κελάρια, όπου φυλάσσονται θησαυροί από τα τέλη του 19ου αιώνα.
Ο Gustav Clauss είχε μεταναστεύσει στην Ελλάδα ακολουθώντας τον βασιλιά Όθωνα από τη Βαυαρία. Το 1859 ίδρυσε εμπόριο κρασιού στην Πάτρα και δύο χρόνια αργότερα, μαζί με τον Jakob Klipfel, δημιούργησε το οινοποιείο, το οποίο μέχρι και σήμερα αποτελεί δημοφιλή τουριστικό προορισμό. Από το 1869 το οινοποιείο Achaia Clauss εξήγαγε κρασιά στη Γερμανία και το 1908 ήταν ήδη πρωτοπόρο στην παραγωγή των κρασιών Μαυροδάφνη (ελληνικά γλυκά κρασιά), ενώ έγινε επίσης γνωστό για τα επιτραπέζια κρασιά Demestica. Μέχρι το 1920 το οινοποιείο είχε χάσει την ηγετική του θέση στην αγορά, όμως κατάφερε να την ανακτήσει πριν από τον Β΄ Παγκόσμιο Πόλεμο.
Τη δεκαετία του 1970 το οινοποιείο έγινε πόλος έλξης για τη διεθνή κοσμική ζωή, με επισκέπτες όπως ο Omar Sharif και ο Αριστοτέλης Ωνάσης. Ακόμα και σήμερα παράγονται εδώ κρασιά που απολαμβάνονται με μεγάλη εκτίμηση. Για να γνωρίσουν οι επισκέπτες το οινοποιείο, προσφέρονται ξεναγήσεις στα ιστορικά κελάρια, όπου εκτίθενται βαρέλια του 19ου αιώνα που ακόμα ωριμάζουν θησαυρούς, αυθεντικά εργαλεία, ένα μικρό μουσείο μηχανημάτων και το γραφείο του Gustav Clauss. Δωρεάν ξεναγήσεις διάρκειας 60 λεπτών πραγματοποιούνται καθημερινά από τις 10:00 έως τις 17:00 σε διάφορες γλώσσες, ενώ η κράτηση μπορεί εύκολα να γίνει μέσω της ιστοσελίδας του οινοποιείου Achaia Clauss (www.achaiaclauss.gr).
